Part of the Augustinian mission involves organizing people and resources to engage in a number of justice and peace activities. Below are the organizations that the Augustinians of North America either manager or partner with as part of our calling to build a more just and peaceful world.
Augustinian Managed Non-Profit Organizations
The Mission of the Augustinian Defenders of the Rights of the Poor is to build bridges between providers, recipients and community leaders across economic, political and religious spectra. A.D.R.O.P. accomplishes its Mission by matching individuals with identified needs to known resources in order to build better communities.
The Order of Saint Augustine is an accredited Non-Governmental Organization (N.G.O) at the United Nations. We work in close relationship with the Holy See and other religious and civil non-governmental organizations at the U.N. to promote human rights and a culture of peace at the international level through the witness of our way of life. Our position at the U.N. enables Augustinians throughout the world to give witness to our common life at the international level on issues such as education & literacy, economic and social development, and human rights. In addition, our NGO status at the U.N. enables us to familiarize the laity and Augustinian Friars serving in various ministries with U.N. projects, declarations, and activities.
We work to promote justice and peace for the vulnerable members of Canadian society. Our task is to generate unique relationship-building initiatives to promote justice and peace for local and global members of the human family. This is achieved by providing training and learning opportunities for leaders and service providers, including the recipients of these services. Our work is to raise the consciousness and awareness of leaders and the marginalized to the unjust structures that harm people and encourage them to determine their own destiny and choose to transform their reality. This can be accomplished by creating opportunities for all to reflect and meditate on the human condition. The Canadian Center for Social Justice does this through organizing, facilitating dialogue, education.
The St. Augustine Foundation supports and collaborates with Augustinian (Order of St. Augustine) and Augustinian-related entities to advance the Kingdom of God as expressed in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the life of the Catholic Church. It supports the needs of the Order and individuals and communities which serve the needs of our brothers and sisters throughout the world in activities which promote peace, justice, community development, and the care and empowerment of peoples.
